The project AGRO is funded under the Erasmus + Programme – Key Action 2: Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices – Capacity Building in the field of youth, with the aim to promote cooperation between Europe and Africa in the field of youth.
The project’s lead applicant is Svimed – EuroMediterranean Center for Sustainable Development, settled in Sicily- Ragusa and the partnership is composed by: 2 African associations (CCREAD Cameroon and FILE Ghana, which promote the mobility of young people in particular in the agricultural sector); 1 Italian Association (Prism Association, experts in the international youth exchanges); 1 Greek organization (Action Synergy SA, experts in e-learning and ICT).
The specific objectives are: to enhance the knowldege and skills of young workers related to rural entrepreneurship; to increase the employment of young people in the agricultural sector; to support the development of business initiatives by young people in different areas of agriculture and in line with the needs expressed by each territory.
The project AGRO include n.3 Capacity Building Training Courses, the first of which will be held in Modica, from 14 to 18 July 2015, hosted at the Educational Institute of Agriculture “Principi Grimaldi” of Modica, that works in close collaboration with Svimed in the frame of initiatives related to agricultural innovation and sustainable farming techniques applying in the Mediterranean area. The training will involve youth workers from Ghana, Cameroon and Greece.
The training course will be conducted by professors of th University of Carania – Department of Agriculture, with a focus on: management of agricultural enterprises; innovations for urban agriculture; innovative methods for sustainable crop production. The training also includes visits to agricultural farms, facilitating meetings with representatives of the agricultural sector of the Province of Ragusa.
On July 17, there will be also a panel discussion with young entrepreneurs of the Province of Ragusa, who have invested in agriculture and who will tell their success stories.
From Modica the capacity building training programme will continue between 2015 and 2016 in Cameroon and Ghana. In 2016 an e-learning platform will be available offering resources and training documents on the topics covered during the courses.
